Typical Itinerary

9:00 AM

9:00 AM: Pickup at your hotel or specified location. We head east to the awe-inspiring Columbia Gorge, a 4,000-foot-deep canyon carved by the Columbia River through the Cascade Mountains.

9:35 AM

Our first stop is Chanticleer Point at the Portland Women’s Forum State Scenic Viewpoint. Perched 700 feet above the Columbia River, this vantage point offers stunning views of the gorge, including sights of Washington state and the Oregon side of the river. Fun fact: this location was featured in the movie “Twilight.”

9:50 AM

Next, we visit the historic Vista House at Crown Point. This iconic rest stop provides a breathtaking thirty-mile view of the Columbia River and exhibits showcasing historic photography and native wildflowers.

10:20 AM

Continuing east on the “Old Scenic Highway,” learn about the history of the first mountain highway in the West. We’ll stop at several picturesque waterfalls, including Latourell, Wahkeena, Multnomah, and Horsetail. These stops offer opportunities for short walks, longer hikes, quiet reflection, and photo sessions.

11:00 AM

Multnomah Falls, Oregon’s tallest waterfall at 620 feet, is our next highlight. Enjoy a ten-minute walk up to the Benson Bridge, which sits between the lower and upper falls, offering fantastic views and photo opportunities. The visit includes time at the Nature Center and Gift Shop.

11:30 AM

We then travel further east to the Bonneville Dam. On our way, we'll discuss the life cycle of Pacific Northwest salmon. At the dam, witness migrating adult salmon through the fish-viewing windows and in the fish ladders.

12:30 PM

Lunchtime in Hood River, known as the windsurfing capital of the U.S.A. Explore this charming town at your leisure, with plenty of dining options and unique shops to browse.

1:30 PM

After lunch, we drive through the picturesque Hood River Valley. A stop at a local fruit stand lets you sample fresh, locally-grown cherries, berries, pears, and apples. As we ascend Mount Hood’s southeast flank, observe the transition from the dry eastside Cascades to the lush westside forests. Optionally, see a segment of the original Oregon Trail. Note: In winter, if road conditions are hazardous, we will adjust the itinerary to ensure safety, offering additional sightseeing in the Eastern Columbia Gorge area or possibly crossing into Washington state for more photo opportunities.

3:30 PM

Arrive at the pinnacle of our tour, Timberline Lodge at 6,000 feet. Revel in the high alpine views of snow-capped Mount Hood and the surrounding Cascade Range. Explore the historic lodge, featured in the film “The Shining,” and enjoy trails with panoramic views.

4:00 PM

As we return to Portland, pass through beautiful mountainous terrain, quaint small towns, and the fertile agricultural fields of the Willamette Valley.

5:30 PM

Drop off at your hotel or home.
