Astoria – Lewis and Clark Historical Tour of the Oregon Coast and Columbia River

On the Lewis and Clark Historical Tour we will visit Astoria, Fort Clatsop, the Astoria Column and Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach. We also will experience incredible views of the rugged Oregon Coastline. This tour is normally scheduled from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Because we travel in small groups, options may be available to adjust our itinerary according to your wishes as the day progresses. We may reverse the direction of this tour depending on traffic flow. The cost of Lewis and Clark Historical Tour is $129 per person, which includes door-to door transportation and the interpretive services of your tour guide. Entrance fees for Fort Clatsop are extra (bring your parks pass). Group discounts available for 30+ guests.



Schedule

8:30 AM:Pickup at your hotel or residence. Travel west from Portland through the picturesque farmland of the Willamette Valley where many types of fruits, hazelnuts and flowers are grown. Pass through Oregon’s premier vineyard region, famous for its award-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris wines.

10:00 AM: Leaving the Willamette Valley, we’ll travel through the rain forests of the Coast Mountain Range. A quick restroom stop is made at Camp 18 Restaurant and Logging Museum to view historical logging equipment and a short exploration.

11:00 AM: Arriving at the coast, we’ll stop at Ecola State Park for world-class views of the of rocky cliffs, gorgeous beaches, and enormous offshore volcanic rocks including the famous “Haystack Rock.” EcoTours carries wildlife spotting telescopes on all tours to view wildlife such as harbor seals and pelagic birds which sun and nest in the offshore wildlife refuges.

11:30 AM: We will travel north towards Astoria. The town of Seaside works out well as a lunch stop because of the many restaurant choices. You will be shown a variety of popular restaurants in the small downtown area of Seaside, Oregon and be given time for lunch on your own.

1:25 PM: We will continue our drive north to Fort Clatsop (National Park Service) along the Lewis and Clark River. Once arriving at Ft. Clatsop, you will have an hour to enjoy the grounds, the museum and, if interested, take in a historical video.

2:30 PM: We next head for the spectacular views of the Astor Column which is 600 feet above of the entire estuary of the mighty Columbia River, the Pacific Ocean, the Oregon and Washington State Coastal Mountain range and the town of Astoria. Learn about the history of the Astor Column which involves railroad tycoons and the building of the cross-continental railroads to the west coast.

3:45 PM: We will enjoy views of the Columbia River making our way back towards Portland along the lower Columbia River.
